Bengaluru, July 14 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's choice to skip the inauguration ceremony of the Sigandur Bridge, labeling it as ‘pettiness’. The party provocatively questioned, "Does it sting that BJP accomplished what Congress failed to do in 60 years?"
The launch of the 2.12-kilometre Sigandur Bridge, which cost Rs 473 crore, has sparked controversy. CM Siddaramaiah claimed that proper protocol was disregarded and declared that no local Ministers or MLAs from the state would be present at the event.
In a press conference in Bengaluru, CM Siddaramaiah mentioned that the conflict was instigated by the Centre.
In response to the backlash, Opposition Leader R. Ashoka remarked, "Today, the residents of the Sharavathi backwater area are rejoicing as a 60-year-old aspiration finally materializes. They are adorning their homes with decorations, celebrating this momentous occasion as if it were a festival."
He continued, "Yet, like someone who doesn't wish to celebrate a wedding but seeks faults in the meal, you, as the state's Chief Minister, opted out of this historic celebration. Instead, you created unnecessary discord. What can we say about such pettiness?"
Ashoka also accused, "Are you envious that what couldn’t be accomplished in 60 years of Congress governance has been achieved by the BJP-led Central government under PM Narendra Modi?"
"Or did Rahul Gandhi instruct you to skip the bridge inauguration?" Ashoka questioned.
He added, "When your leaders summon you, you abandon state matters and rush to Delhi in a special flight to protect your position. Yet, you lack the willingness to attend the Sigandur Bridge inauguration?"
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is in Karnataka to inaugurate the Sigandur bridge project for the state’s residents. The construction, which commenced on December 12, 2019, fulfills a demand that has persisted for over 60 years and is anticipated to serve over 40 villages. Previously, individuals and vehicles relied on a ferry to traverse the Sharavathi River.
CM Siddaramaiah had previously sent a letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari objecting to the inauguration's timing and requested a postponement.
When questioned about the inauguration on Monday, CM Siddaramaiah shared that he had communicated with Union Minister Gadkari and written to him, requesting a schedule change for the event in Sagara taluk.
Even though Gadkari had consented to reschedule, the event proceeded on Monday due to pressure from local BJP leaders, without prior notice to CM Siddaramaiah.
