Dr. Manmohan Singh's Essential Contribution to US-India Relations: USIBC

Washington, Dec 27 (NationPress) The US-India Business Council (USIBC) announced on Friday that former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was instrumental in enhancing the ties between the US and India.
In a declaration, the USIBC, representing numerous leading global firms operating in the United States, India, and the Indo-Pacific, stated that Dr. Singh is “rightly acknowledged” as a key architect of the contemporary bilateral relationship.
The Chair, President, Managing Director, member firms, and staff of USIBC expressed their sincere condolences to Dr. Singh's family and the people of India following his passing at the age of 92.
“Dr. Singh was pivotal in advancing US-India relations and modernising the partnership, steering both democracies towards a consistent trajectory of strategic, economic, and technological convergence,” remarked USIBC President Ambassador (ret.) Atul Keshap.
Keshap elaborated that through his persistent leadership in realizing the transformative agreement on civilian nuclear energy cooperation, “Dr. Singh is rightly hailed as an architect of the modern bilateral relationship, and many in America will remember him with respect and fondness for his gentle and clear leadership”.
Notable achievements during Dr. Singh's tenure include the India-US Civil Nuclear Agreement 2008, which opened avenues for civilian nuclear collaboration.
This agreement ended India’s decades-long nuclear isolation and redefined its relations with major powers, including the US.
The nuclear deal significantly strengthened India’s diplomatic ties with countries like Japan, France, Australia, and Germany, positioning India as a responsible nuclear power.
Additionally, the economic liberalisation initiated in 1991 marked a pivotal moment in India's post-independence narrative, inviting the nation into the global economy.
Founded in 1975 at the request of the US and Indian governments, the USIBC acts as the principal advocate for industry and fosters connections between businesses and governments in both nations.
