New Delhi, May 24 (NationPress) In a significant anti-drug operation conducted in proximity to the North Campus of Delhi University, law enforcement apprehended a medicine shop owner, a medical representative, and three additional individuals for the illegal distribution of pharmaceutical drugs without the requisite bills or prescriptions, as confirmed by a Delhi Police representative on Saturday.
Apoorva Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (Crime), reported the confiscation of 2,360 capsules of Tramadol, 135 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup, and five mobile phones from the suspects.
The individuals taken into custody were identified as Manish Bhatle (26), Devender (57), Nikhil alias Gunnu (28), Ankit Gupta (40), and Kapil (28).
According to an FIR filed on May 12, the operation uncovered the drug ring following the arrest of Manish Bhatle, who resides in Sabzi Mandi Ghantaghar, Malka Ganj, apprehended near Shri Ram Institute.
At the time of his arrest, he was seen carrying two plastic sacks, as stated by DCP Gupta.
One sack contained 10 boxes of various capsules (Dicyclomine HCI, Tramadol HCI, and Acetaminophen) totaling 2,360 capsules (118 grams), while the other had 120 bottles of 100 ml codeine-based syrup (24 gm codeine).
He was found without any bills or prescriptions and could not clarify the origin of the drugs, according to police reports.
Drug inspector Dr. Swapnil Patil, accompanying the ANTF team, verified that the failure to carry bills or prescriptions for the seized pharmaceutical drugs contravenes the NDPS Act, according to police.
Following Manish Bhatle’s interrogation, police proceeded to arrest Devender and Nikhil.
Further questioning revealed the involvement of Ankit Gupta, the owner of the wholesale medicine shop, Ravi Medicare.
Kapil was the last suspect arrested on May 15 in Veena Enclave, Nangloi.
During his interrogation, Kapil revealed that these drugs were supplied to him by Rakesh, a resident of Udhyog Nagar, Delhi, who remains at large.
