New Delhi, Sep 19 (NationPress) The eagerly awaited outcomes of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2025 are set to be unveiled today, marking the end of a heated student political showdown that saw participation from over 1.55 lakh voters.
Prior to the announcement, the Delhi High Court has enforced a stringent prohibition on any victory celebrations by victorious candidates. The court has instructed the Delhi Police, university officials, and local authorities to implement rigorous measures to avert any potential disturbances.
This year, the DUSU elections took place on Thursday, engaging more than 2.75 lakh eligible voters from over 50 colleges affiliated with Delhi University. Voting was conducted in 52 centers and 195 booths, utilizing 711 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The total voter turnout was recorded at 39.45 percent.
In total, 21 candidates are competing for the four primary positions within the student union: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary. Notably, nine candidates are contesting solely for the President's role, while the other positions see a race among 12 candidates.
The polling was executed in two segments. The morning session commenced at 8:30 a.m. and wrapped up at 1 p.m., while the evening segment was held from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. across eight colleges. Although the morning session started slowly, voter engagement surged as the day progressed.
However, the elections faced allegations of violence and misconduct. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student faction linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accused the sitting DUSU President and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) leader Raunak Khatri of being involved in a physical altercation at North Campus.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma claimed that Khatri's supporters assaulted a female student outside Kirori Mal College, resulting in her injuries.
Despite the tensions, both the ABVP and NSUI assert they are poised for victory. The ABVP claims it is on track to secure all four union positions, dismissing NSUI's allegations as unfounded and a sign of political anxiety.
Security measures have been intensified across university campuses to maintain law and order during and after the result announcement.
