New Delhi, Dec 22 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar is set to travel to Sri Lanka on Tuesday as the Special Envoy for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, engaging in discussions with the island nation's top leadership.
The visit highlights India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and occurs in the backdrop of Operation Sagar Bandhu, initiated to respond to the devastation inflicted by Cyclone Ditwah, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
India commenced Operation Sagar Bandhu on November 28, acting as the first responder following the catastrophic Cyclone Ditwah, to deliver urgent Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to Sri Lanka.
Recently, India dispatched relief supplies to various flood-affected regions in Sri Lanka, showcasing its unwavering commitment to assist its neighboring country during this crisis as part of Operation Sagar Bandhu.
On December 18, India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, visited the Kolonnawa area of Colombo and the Bhaktivedanta Children's Home 'Gokulam' in Wattala, both severely impacted by the floods following Cyclone Ditwah.
During this visit, High Commissioner Jha distributed assistance kits to families in Kolonnawa in collaboration with the All Ceylon Sufi Spiritual Association and provided aid to children at 'Gokulam' at the ISKCON Temple in Colombo, where they had been relocated.
