Guwahati, Dec 19 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Congress party on Friday, asserting that the state's recruitment processes have significantly changed in recent years. The system has shifted from a tumultuous phase of court disputes, suspected corruption, and cash-for-jobs scandals to one characterized by fairness, transparency, and a merit-based approach.
While reflecting on the previous recruitment practices during the Congress tenure, CM Sarma pointed out that almost every government examination in Assam resulted in numerous court cases, which prolonged the appointment process and denied qualified candidates their rightful opportunities.
“In the past, jobs were reportedly sold to the highest bidders. The recruitment process lacked transparency, accountability, and was excessively time-consuming, which was unfair to diligent aspirants,” the Chief Minister stated in a social media post.
Emphasizing the current scenario, CM Sarma declared that his administration has eradicated corruption and middlemen in recruitment. “Today, there are no court cases concerning government recruitment, nor any corruption allegations. There are no intermediaries and no bribery involved. It’s all about transparency, accountability, and equal chances for the youth of Assam,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the government has implemented technology-driven and time-sensitive recruitment processes to ensure fairness and reliability.
He mentioned that written tests, skill assessments, and interviews are now conducted systematically, with rigorous oversight to avert any irregularities.
He noted that these recruitment reforms have revitalized public trust in the system.
In recent years, the Assam government has successfully executed extensive recruitment campaigns across various departments, filling thousands of vacant positions.
CM Sarma emphasized that merit-based recruitment is vital not just for providing jobs to educated youth but also for enhancing governance and service delivery.
The CM reiterated his government's commitment to ensuring that government positions are obtained solely through hard work and merit.
“From scams to systems, Assam has transformed. This change was achievable only due to our determination to provide clean and accountable governance,” he concluded.
