Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 21 (NationPress) As the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections draw near, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has significantly amplified its efforts to uphold transparency, accountability, and rigorous enforcement of electoral regulations throughout the state.
A comprehensive network of Central Observers has been dispatched to monitor the electoral proceedings and resolve complaints from the public, political entities, and candidates.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu, a total of 136 General Observers, 40 Police Observers, and 151 Expenditure Observers have been appointed across all 234 Assembly constituencies.
Contact details have been circulated via District Election Officers, enabling citizens and stakeholders to report any election-related violations or grievances directly.
To enhance expenditure monitoring, enforcement agencies have increased their vigilance statewide to prevent illegal inducements, including cash distribution, liquor, drugs, and freebies.
These intensified efforts have led to seizures totaling Rs 75.03 crore as of March 21, 2026. This includes Rs 23.74 crore in cash, Rs 0.51 crore worth of liquor, Rs 5.63 crore in drugs and narcotics, Rs 23.19 crore in precious metals, and Rs 21.96 crore in additional items and freebies.
The ECI's SUVIDHA portal remains instrumental in streamlining election-related activities, allowing candidates and political parties to facilitate online nomination submissions, book time slots for submissions, and request permissions for public gatherings, rallies, and other campaign events.
To date, 2,443 applications have been submitted through the portal, with 737 processed promptly, while the remaining applications are under review. Candidates must complete the online process and submit a printed version alongside necessary documents to the Returning Officer.
Additionally, officials have encouraged all eligible voters to verify their names on the electoral rolls to guarantee their participation in the democratic process. Citizens can check their status online or apply for inclusion using Form-6, either through Electoral Registration Officers or digital platforms. The deadline for enrollment is March 26, 2026.
Authorities have also highlighted support services like the “Book a Call with BLO” feature and mobile applications to assist voters. Emphasizing the importance of public participation, the CEO reiterated that timely verification is crucial to avoid last-minute complications and to ensure a seamless electoral process across Tamil Nadu.
