New Delhi, July 3 (NationPress) Continuing its series of discussions with the leaders of various national and state political parties, the Election Commission engaged in a meeting with a delegation from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) on Thursday. This important meeting featured Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, who met with the YSRCP delegation led by Y.V. Subba Reddy to gather their insights at the Commission's headquarters in New Delhi.
The Commission emphasized the importance of these discussions, stating, “These interactions address the long-standing need for constructive dialogue, allowing National and State Party Presidents to directly communicate their suggestions and concerns with the Commission.”
The Election Commission further noted that this initiative is in line with its broader goal to enhance the electoral process within the existing legal framework, engaging all stakeholders.
In a related development, on Wednesday, a delegation of 11 parties from the INDIA Bloc, including the Congress, RJD, CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML)-Liberation, NCP-SP, and the Samajwadi Party, met with officials from the poll panel to express their opposition to the Commission's decision to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of the crucial Assembly elections.
On social media platform X, the Commission clarified that SIR is being carried out following Article 326, the RP Act of 1950, along with guidelines issued in June 2024 and 2025. They assured that every concern raised by party representatives was thoroughly addressed by the Commission.
The leaders of the INDIA bloc accused the Commission of lacking transparency in the process and called for a meeting with all political parties to discuss the revision exercise. Over the past weeks, the Election Commission has conducted meetings with various recognized national parties, including the BJP, BSP, CPI(M), AAP, and NPP. They also held a separate meeting with leaders from the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday.
However, during the meeting on Wednesday, the Election Commission reportedly insisted that they would only meet with party presidents or authorized high-ranking representatives, a decision that further frustrated Opposition leaders.
Earlier this year, in March, a total of 4,719 all-party meetings were conducted, including 40 meetings by CEOs, 800 by DEOs, and 3,879 by EROs, engaging over 28,000 representatives from various political parties.
