How Does the C-Vigil App Empower Voters to Report Poll Violations?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Oct 21 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has encouraged the populace to actively participate in safeguarding the integrity of elections in Bihar by utilizing the C-Vigil App to notify authorities of any Model Code of Conduct (MCC) infringements.
This initiative coincides with the Commission's preparations for the upcoming General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Bihar 2025 and the bye-elections across eight Assembly Constituencies (ACs).
As stated in a formal press release from the Commission on Tuesday, a total of 824 flying squads have been deployed throughout Bihar to swiftly address complaints.
The Commission emphasized that each complaint submitted via the C-Vigil App will be responded to within 100 minutes.
Demonstrating the app's effectiveness, the ECI disclosed that by October 21, there were a remarkable 650 complaints registered through the C-Vigil platform in the ongoing Bihar elections and states and Union Territories with bye-elections.
Notably, 649 of these complaints have been resolved, with 612 — approximately 94 percent — addressed within the designated 100 minutes.
To enhance the complaint resolution process, the ECI has established a 24x7 complaint monitoring system featuring a dedicated call center helpline at 1950, enabling citizens and political entities to directly contact the relevant District Election Officer (DEO) or Returning Officer (RO).
“A complaint monitoring system has been established, including a Call Center number 1950, where any member of the public or political party can lodge complaints with the concerned DEO/RO. This system is now operational 24X7,” stated the ECI in its press release.
In its commitment to combat the misuse of funds and inducements during elections, the Commission revealed that enforcement agencies have confiscated cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, and other freebies valued at Rs 71.32 crore across various states and Union Territories.
The ECI reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and accountability in the electoral process, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any misconduct to help uphold the integrity of the elections in Bihar.
