New Delhi, Oct 20 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) is ramping up its efforts for the upcoming November Bihar Assembly elections and bye-elections across eight assembly constituencies. A robust contingent of Central Observers has been dispatched to ensure a transparent and equitable environment for all political entities and candidates, as stated on Sunday.
The announcement from the polling body reveals that these observers have been appointed under the authority provided to the ECI by Article 324 of the Constitution and Section 20B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
These observers are pivotal in aiding the Commission to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and bolster public confidence in the conduct of the elections.
"The Commission has already deployed 121 General Observers and 18 Police Observers for Phase 1, and 122 General Observers along with 20 Police Observers for Phase 2 of the Bihar Legislative Assembly Election 2025,” the ECI noted in its statement.
"Additionally, 8 General and 8 Police Observers have been assigned to the ongoing bye-elections in 8 ACs," it further added.
Upon their deployment, all observers have swiftly conducted initial ground visits in their designated constituencies and are now overseeing the arrangements on-site.
"The ECI has directed the Observers to meticulously oversee the entire election process to guarantee a free, fair, and transparent electoral experience," it stated.
The observers have been instructed to remain readily accessible to candidates, political parties, and the general public, ensuring that any complaints or grievances are addressed without delay.
They will also carry out frequent inspections of polling stations to confirm the implementation of the Commission’s latest voter-friendly initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility and convenience for voters.
Through a strong presence across constituencies, the ECI aims to deter malpractice and strengthen public trust in the electoral process.
The ECI has also emphasized that "observers are required to visit polling stations and ensure the enforcement of the recent initiatives taken by the Commission for voter convenience."
