New Delhi, June 29 (NationPress) During the 123rd episode of his monthly radio show, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted a recent report from the International Labour Organization (ILO) indicating a substantial increase in India's social security coverage.

Economist Pankaj Jaiswal expressed to IANS from Mumbai that this remarkable milestone should be “celebrated,” as it signifies PM Modi’s significant success in ensuring that the underprivileged and marginalized communities are not overlooked.

According to ILO statistics, there has been a noteworthy 45 percent increase in social security benefits from 2015 to 2025, coinciding with PM Modi's tenure.

Jaiswal elaborated that this ranking stems from the initial phase of an international evaluation that scrutinized 19 welfare initiatives, including direct cash benefit schemes. “This is more than just a statistic; it illustrates India’s significant strides in securing welfare and economic stability for its populace,” he remarked.

“At present, 94 crore individuals are benefiting from social security in India, and with the second phase of the study upcoming, that figure may exceed 100 crores.” He emphasized that the government’s initiative to dismantle the underground economy has been pivotal, with programs like Jan Dhan Yojana playing an essential role.

“Previously, many individuals without bank accounts, particularly from impoverished backgrounds, were unaware of their entitlements to government assistance. Now, thanks to financial inclusion and data mapping, benefits are reaching the most disadvantaged, eliminating the intermediary roles,” he added.

He underscored the extensive reach of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, reporting that 77 crore digital health cards have been issued. Additionally, gig workers and self-help groups, including those benefiting from the Lakhpati Didi initiative, are being included in the social security framework, providing significant advantages to women.

Regarding vital initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and support plans for unorganized workers, Jaiswal stated that these programs are essential for India's socio-economic advancement.

“When 81 crore individuals receive food security through the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, it guarantees that no one goes to bed hungry. Only when basic needs are fulfilled can individuals concentrate on productivity and nation-building,” he noted.

The latest ILO report, which PM Modi referenced in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, highlights this significant transformation. “This ranking is worthy of celebration,” Jaiswal remarked, asserting that “It demonstrates India’s decisive march towards an inclusive and secure society.”
