Imphal, June 29 (NationPress) Although the positivity rate has decreased by 6.5 percent over the last four days, Covid-19 cases are rising in Manipur with a total of 243 cases reported on Sunday, according to an official statement.

A senior representative from the Manipur Health and Family Welfare Department indicated that among the 50 samples tested on Sunday, 13 were confirmed positive for the virus.

Out of the 243 reported cases on Sunday, 166 were found in the Imphal West district, 54 in Imphal East district, 10 in Thoubal district, 9 in Bishnupur, 2 in Tengnoupal, and 1 each in Kakching and Chandel district.

Except for the districts of Tengnoupal and Chandel, which are predominantly tribal, the other five districts are located in the Imphal Valley region.

As per the health official, the Covid-19 positivity rate in Manipur is currently at 26 percent, a decrease from 32.5 percent on June 26.

At present, 89 individuals with Covid-19 are under home isolation (quarantine).

The Director of Health Services, Chambo Gonmei, noted that the first Covid case in this wave was identified on June 9, when a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur district tested positive.

He urged residents to remain vigilant due to the infection's spread in other regions of the country.

Earlier, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla conducted a review meeting at the Raj Bhavan, emphasizing the need for proactive measures, robust medical infrastructure, and community awareness to prepare the state for any potential rise in Covid-19 cases.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, senior medical officials from the health department, and other authorities.

This review was prompted by recent guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, highlighting the necessity for increased preparedness in light of growing concerns regarding a potential Covid-19 resurgence.

An official from the Raj Bhavan reported that health officials briefed the Governor on the state's readiness, which includes diagnostics, protective equipment, oxygen supply, ICU and isolation wards, essential medications, and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme-Integrated Health Information Platform portal.

Point of View

I would like to emphasize the importance of staying informed and prepared during this ongoing pandemic. While the decline in positivity rates is encouraging, the rise in total cases signals the need for continued vigilance. We must support our health officials and adhere to guidelines to safeguard our communities.
