Imphal, July 6 (NationPress) The situation regarding Covid-19 has shown notable improvement in Manipur as of Friday, with a reported daily positivity rate of 13.3%, down from 32.5% on June 26, according to officials.
An official from the Health and Family Welfare Department revealed that the latest Covid-19 status report from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) indicated that out of 15 samples tested on Sunday, only two new positive cases were identified, maintaining the daily positivity rate at 13.3%. Since June 1, 2025, there have been 298 total Covid-19 positive cases reported.
At present, there are 55 active Covid-19 cases in the state, with 13 patients discharged on Sunday, leading to a total of 243 recoveries. Notably, no Covid-related fatalities have been recorded during this period.
Among the 298 positive cases reported on Sunday, 196 were from Imphal West, 69 in Imphal East, 18 in Bishnupur, 10 in Thoubal, two each in Tengnoupal and Chandel districts, and one in Kakching district. The five districts, apart from the tribal-inhabited Tengnoupal and Chandel, are situated in the Imphal Valley region.
The Director of Manipur’s Health Services, Chambo Gonmei, noted that the first Covid case in this current wave was reported on June 9, when a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur district tested positive. Gonmei has urged the public to remain vigilant due to the ongoing spread of infections in other regions of the country.
Earlier, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla conducted a review meeting at the Raj Bhavan, emphasizing the need for proactive measures, robust medical infrastructure, and community awareness to prepare for any possible surge in Covid-19 cases.
Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, along with senior medical officials from the Health Department and other authorities, participated in the meeting. The discussion was prompted by recent directives from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding enhanced preparedness amidst growing concerns of a potential Covid-19 resurgence.
An official from Raj Bhavan stated that health officials briefed the Governor on the state’s preparedness, including diagnostics, protective equipment, oxygen supply, ICU and isolation wards, essential medications, and information from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme-Integrated Health Information Platform portal.
