Imphal, July 4 (NationPress) The Covid-19 scenario in Manipur has shown notable improvement, with a daily positivity rate recorded at 15.2% on Friday, a decrease from 32.5% on June 26, as per an official statement.
An official from the Health and Family Welfare Department stated that the latest report by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) indicated that out of 33 samples tested on Friday, five were positive, reflecting the 15.2% positivity rate.
Since June 1, the total number of Covid-19 cases reported in Manipur has reached 280, with Imphal West recording the highest number of cases, followed by Imphal East and Bishnupur districts.
These three districts are located in the Imphal valley region.
The official reported that the current active cases in the state stand at 63, most of whom are under home isolation. A total of 217 individuals have recovered and been discharged, showcasing a recovery count that notably exceeds active cases. No Covid-19 deaths have been reported in Manipur to date, according to the official.
According to Manipur’s Health Services Director, Chambo Gonmei, the first Covid case in the state emerged on June 9, when a 23-year-old woman tested positive.
She is from Bishnupur district. Gonmei urged citizens to remain vigilant due to the infection's spread in other regions of the country.
Earlier, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla convened a review meeting at the Raj Bhavan, stressing the significance of proactive measures, adequate medical infrastructure, and community awareness to ensure the state is prepared for any possible rise in Covid-19 cases.
Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, along with senior medical officials from the state Health Department and other authorities, participated in the meeting.
This review was conducted in response to recent directives from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding enhanced preparedness amidst growing concerns over a potential Covid-19 resurgence.
A Raj Bhavan official indicated that health officials briefed the Governor on the state's readiness, which includes diagnostics, protective equipment, oxygen supply, ICU and isolation wards, essential medications, and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme-Integrated Health Information Platform portal.
