Imphal, June 22 (NationPress) The count of Covid-19 cases is escalating in Manipur, as 33 individuals, including women, have tested positive for the virus on Sunday, raising the total cumulative cases in the northeastern state to 145, according to health officials.

Health authorities reported that 101 samples were tested on Sunday, with 33 coming back positive across three districts: Imphal West (27), Imphal East (3), and Thoubal (3).

As per the officials, out of the total 145 positive cases on Sunday, 103 were from Imphal West district, 29 from Imphal East district, six from Thoubal district, four from Bishnupur, two from Tengnoupal, and one from Kakching district.

With the exception of the tribal-inhabited Tengnoupal district, the other five districts are situated in the Imphal Valley region.

The first Covid case in Manipur was reported on June 9, involving a 23-year-old woman who tested positive for the virus, marking the initial instance in this current wave of infections.

The current Covid-19 positivity rate in Manipur is at 32.7 percent.

Currently, 122 individuals with confirmed Covid-19 cases are in home quarantine.

Manipur Health Services Director Chambo Gonmei stated that the woman is from Bishnupur district and had exhibited Covid-like symptoms.

Her samples, taken at a private clinic in Imphal on June 5, returned results on June 9.
