Kolkata, July 28 (NationPress) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned West Bengal's minister responsible for micro, small, and medium enterprises and textiles, Chandranath Sinha, for interrogation regarding the extensive cash-for-school-job scandal in the state.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Sinha is expected to appear at the ED’s office located in the central government office (CGO) Complex in Salt Lake, on July 31.
On this date, Sinha must bring his bank account information and property records; however, he has chosen not to comment to the press regarding the ED's notice.
This marks the second occasion the ED has called Sinha in relation to the school-job controversy in West Bengal. Previously, in September of the prior year, he attended the ED’s office in Salt Lake and was interrogated on the matter.
The ED officials initially identified Sinha's name through a diary belonging to the middleman and now-suspended Trinamool Congress figure, Kuntal Ghosh, who has since been apprehended by the agency. Furthermore, in March of last year, the ED executed raids on the minister's residence in Bolpur, located in the Birbhum district.
During these raids, the ED confiscated cash amounting to Rs 41 lakh and a mobile device from his home.
Sinha is recognized for his close ties to Trinamool Congress heavyweight and former district president in Birbhum, Anubrata Mondal.
Additionally, in March of the previous year, Sinha was also summoned by the ED for inquiries connected to the multi-crore cattle-smuggling case in West Bengal.
