Patna, Feb 4 (NationPress) A wave of panic swept through Madurna village in the Kaimur district of Bihar on Wednesday as eight children fell gravely ill after ingesting the seeds of a diesel plant while playing.
As reported by local sources, the incident occurred near the eastern pond of the village, where the children picked fruits from a nearby diesel plant and consumed the seeds. Their health deteriorated rapidly about an hour later, exhibiting symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, and nausea, which caused alarm among their families.
The affected children have been identified as Lado Kumari (5), daughter of Pintu Ram; Twinkle Kumari (8), daughter of Pintu Ram; Ashirwad Kumar (7), son of Somaru Ram; Krish Kumar (8), son of Somaru Ram; Abhishek Kumar (5), son of Dularchan Ram; Aditya Kumar (9), son of Dularchan Ram; Khushi Kumari (12), daughter of Lotan Ram; and Arun Kumar (8), son of Praveen Kumar Ram.
The children were quickly taken to Chainpur Hospital for initial treatment.
Due to the severity of their symptoms, they were subsequently referred to Bhabhua Sadar Hospital, where all eight children were admitted for comprehensive care.
Dr. Tribhuvan Narayan, a physician at Sadar Hospital, confirmed that the children are now stable and out of danger.
“The children are responding positively to treatment and are anticipated to make a swift recovery,” he stated.
Medical professionals have advised parents to keep their children away from unfamiliar plants, fruits, and seeds, emphasizing that many wild plants common in rural settings can be extremely toxic.
Experts pointed out that the seeds of the diesel plant are particularly harmful to children, warning that even a small intake can lead to serious health issues.
This incident underscores the pressing need for enhanced awareness in rural communities regarding poisonous plants and the importance of educational initiatives to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The district administration has notified officials about the situation, urging vigilance within the area and restricting access to outsiders, particularly children.
