Kolkata, Oct 23 (NationPress) An elderly woman has filed a complaint against five individuals after they assaulted her for protesting against the late-night bursting of firecrackers. This incident occurred in the Bhawanipur area of south Kolkata during the early hours of Tuesday.
The woman claimed that she visited the police station on the same day to report the incident, but her complaint was not registered as it was the night of Kali Puja, a time when firecrackers are commonly used.
On Thursday, accompanied by a lawyer, she returned to the police station, where an FIR was filed against the five accused. Despite this, no arrests have been made as of yet.
Identified as Anupama Chowdhury, a resident of 4B Asutosh Mukherjee Road, she reported that local youths were setting off firecrackers around 1:30 a.m., exceeding the allowed hours.
In her protest against the loud disturbances, she alleged that the firecrackers had caused a minor fire in her house. In response, the youths assaulted both her and her brother.
In an interview, she recounted, "I was asleep when I suddenly found my home filled with smoke. I struggled to breathe and went downstairs to urge the boys to stop. They violently attacked me, and no one in the neighborhood came to help."
She expressed concerns about potential future attacks and criticized the police for their lack of assistance. The police confirmed that an investigation is underway.
