Kolkata, Oct 17 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police has recently announced specific time restrictions for the use of firecrackers during the upcoming festivals of Kali Puja and Diwali on October 20, as well as for Chhath Puja on October 28.
According to a notification issued by Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, a two-hour window has been designated for the use of only green firecrackers during the festivities of Kali Puja and Diwali, which will take place from 8 PM to 10 PM.
For Chhath Puja, the time allocated for the burning of firecrackers is from 6 AM to 8 AM.
The Kolkata Police emphasized that these regulations have been established in accordance with prior directives from both the Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court.
Additionally, the use of sound-producing crackers will remain prohibited, and law enforcement will take stringent measures against any offenders who disregard these judicial mandates.
The use of sky lanterns and balloons has also been prohibited.
A senior official from the Kolkata Police stated that all police stations across the various divisions of the city will be vigilant against the sale of sound crackers or sky lanterns within the city limits.
On Thursday, the Calcutta High Court raised concerns about the practical enforcement of firecracker regulations in the state.
Consequently, West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant convened a virtual meeting with the Kolkata Police Commissioner and other district police superintendents to ensure strict compliance with firecracker regulations during Kali Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja.
