The injured workers, Perumal (49), Sakkarai (54), Arumugam (58), and Boopalan (48), suffered electric shocks and are currently receiving treatment at the Uthangarai Government Hospital, where their condition is reported to be serious.

The body of Ramamoorthy will undergo a post-mortem examination before being returned to his family.

The Singarapettai police have initiated an investigation and registered a case regarding this tragic occurrence.

This unfortunate incident follows a directive from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, which on January 27 mandated that all political parties, religious groups, and community organizations remove permanent flagpoles installed in public areas throughout Tamil Nadu within a 12-week timeframe.

Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan noted that flagpoles on land belonging to National and State Highways, municipal corporations, and other governmental entities must be dismantled. If these structures are not voluntarily removed within the designated period, authorities are to take action after issuing a two-week notice, and the costs incurred will be charged to the relevant parties or organizations.

The court further stated that no permanent flagpoles should be permitted on public property. However, political entities may erect flagpoles on their own land with the necessary permissions. Temporary flagpoles may be allowed during events, provided they do not cause any damage and that rental fees are paid in advance as per regulations.

Authorities are also instructed to restore public spaces to their original state following the removal of such structures, recovering any damages from the accountable party, as per the court's directive.

In light of the court's ruling, DMK General Secretary and Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister S. Duraimurugan has directed local party branches to promptly remove all party flagpoles situated along roadsides and highways.
