Enhanced Security Measures Implemented Along the India-Bangladesh Border in Tripura Prior to HM Shah’s 3-Day Visit and NEC Meeting

Agartala, Dec 18 (NationPress) In anticipation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s 3-day visit to Tripura and the upcoming 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), security measures along the India-Bangladesh border and various regions of the state have been heightened, officials disclosed on Wednesday.

A spokesperson from the Border Security Force (BSF) mentioned that prior to the NEC plenary session, high-ranking officials, including Tripura Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, inspected several border areas and districts to evaluate the current security situation and operational readiness.

During this inspection, multiple aspects of effective border management were discussed, including the BSF’s continuous dominance over the India-Bangladesh border day and night, collaborative operations with police and other intelligence agencies aimed at curbing trans-border crime, actions against agents facilitating illegal migration, eradication of cannabis, ensuring the safety of local populations living near the fence, planning for the relocation of villages ahead of the border fence, improving road connectivity, ensuring electricity supply to Border Outposts (BOPs), and addressing land acquisition issues.

The spokesperson added that during the visit to BOP N.C. Nagar, Deputy Inspector General Gokulnagar provided senior officials with updates on the existing security landscape and additional measures taken to fortify border security.

Director General of Tripura Police Amitabh Ranjan, BSF Additional Director General of Eastern Command Ravi Gandhi, and BSF Inspector General of Tripura Frontier Ashwani Kumar Sharma accompanied the Chief Secretary during the tour of Dhalai and Sepahijala districts.

The Chief Secretary and the DGP praised the relentless efforts of BSF personnel stationed at the border in challenging conditions, according to the spokesperson.

This visit highlighted the BSF’s commitment, in collaboration with state authorities, to enhance border security.

The BSF ADG and IG later conferred with Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu at the Raj Bhavan, providing him with insights on the current security situation along the border and the operational readiness of the force.

The Governor acknowledged the BSF’s endeavors in Tripura to uphold peace and security in the region and stressed the necessity for improved coordination between state agencies and the BSF to tackle emerging challenges.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, alongside Governors, Chief Ministers, and Deputy Chief Ministers from all eight northeastern states, will partake in the NEC meeting scheduled in Agartala on December 21.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha mentioned that the meeting would focus on the progress of various ongoing and proposed development initiatives.

He also indicated that a review meeting regarding the activities and planning of the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) is set to occur on December 22.

A senior official confirmed that Union Home Minister and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) Chairman S. Somanath are slated to attend the NESAC meeting.

During the previous NEC meeting in Shillong, the Union Home Minister remarked that over its 50 years of establishment, the NEC has accelerated development in the region by providing a policy-related platform for all states and simplifying their challenges.

Based in Meghalaya's capital Shillong, the NEC serves as a regional planning and statutory advisory body for the eight northeastern states, including Sikkim, and was established under the North Eastern Council Act, 1971, commencing its operations on November 7, 1972.
