Indore, June 17 (NationPress) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Madhya Pradesh Police announced on Tuesday that it has successfully recovered assets exceeding Rs 1.84 crore during simultaneous raids at the residence and office of Chetan Patil, an official of the Indore Municipal Corporation.

EOW officials reported that the seized items comprise documents pertaining to two plots of land, a two-storey building, furnishings valued at Rs 13 lakh, 18 investment policies, and Rs 40 lakh deposited across various bank accounts.

The raids took place on Tuesday morning at Patil’s home in Gulmohar Colony and his office at the Indore Municipal Corporation.

This operation is part of an ongoing investigation into claims of disproportionate assets and financial misconduct, particularly regarding the procurement of plants for city beautification initiatives.

According to EOW Superintendent of Police (Indore), R.S. Yadav, “Chetan Patil began his career at the IMC as a clerk two decades ago and is now an Assistant Superintendent in the Horticulture Department. Initial findings suggest he has accumulated various properties in his name and that of family members, not just in Indore, but also in other districts across Madhya Pradesh.

During the raids, officials also discovered incriminating materials, including property documents, bank account details, laptops, jewelry, cash, and other valuables.

Yadav mentioned, “Records from the Indore Municipal Corporation indicate that Patil’s total earnings over the years should range between Rs 15 to Rs 17 lakh. However, we’ve already identified assets worth Rs 1.84 crore—this figure may increase as our investigation progresses.”

The EOW's actions were prompted by multiple allegations against Patil, which claimed he had accumulated wealth disproportionate to his legitimate sources of income. These accusations also highlighted irregularities in the procurement of plants for city beautification projects.

“Initial investigations point to financial discrepancies of around Rs 4 crore linked to plant procurement. A case was opened based on these findings, leading to the raids,” Yadav explained.

Further scrutiny of Patil's assets, encompassing bank accounts and property evaluations, is still ongoing.

Point of View

It is crucial to emphasize that the EOW's actions reflect a growing commitment to transparency and accountability in public service.
