Excise Police Team in Madhya Pradesh Assaulted by Liquor Mafia; Four Officers Injured

Tikamgarh, Jan 11 (NationPress) A coordinated operation by the Excise Police Team in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh district took a violent turn when they were assaulted by members of the liquor mafia. The confrontation unfolded in Birau village under the jurisdiction of Digaura Police Station, resulting in injuries to four officials, including Sub-Inspector (SI) Vijay Singh, late on Friday evening.

The attack was reportedly orchestrated by notorious liquor kingpin Santosh Yadav and his relatives, who hurled stones at the police and struck them with sticks. During the chaos, Santosh Yadav allegedly seized SI Vijay Singh's service revolver. The injured officials were promptly taken to the district hospital for medical care.

According to law enforcement sources, the raid was initiated after an undercover operation where an excise constable, posing as a civilian, purchased a quarter of illegal country liquor from the targeted site.

Upon confirming the illicit activity, the team raided the location and discovered a woman selling liquor. When asked to call her husband, Santosh Yadav arrived with his accomplices and violently assaulted the team.

SI Vijay Singh recounted, 'Santosh Yadav, along with his two sons, wife, father, and two other individuals, attacked us. They threw stones and beat us with sticks. Santosh Yadav then took my service revolver. We had no choice but to flee for our safety and alert the Digaura Police Station.'

The injured members included Excise Constables Prahlad Prajapati, Virendra Vishwakarma, and Mahendra Rai.

In the wake of the incident, police have fortified Birau village to capture the suspects. However, Santosh Yadav and his accomplices remain elusive.

The excise officials confirmed the attack, stating, 'Our team had gone to Birau village to dismantle the illegal liquor trade. The sellers launched an attack on them. Reinforcements from Digaura Police Station were deployed immediately after we received news of the assault.'

The police have initiated a manhunt to recover the stolen service revolver and apprehend the culprits. This incident has sparked serious concerns regarding the safety of enforcement officials combating the widespread illegal liquor trade in the area.

Further investigations are ongoing.
