Visakhapatnam, April 13 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, eight individuals lost their lives and six others sustained injuries due to an explosion at a firecrackers manufacturing facility in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
The explosion took place in Kailasapatnam, located in Kotlavuratla Mandal, as reported by the police.
The firecrackers unit was entirely destroyed in the ensuing blaze, which was caused by the explosion. At the time of the incident, fourteen workers were present in the facility.
Sadly, eight individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, with their remains found in a severely damaged state. Some were so badly burned that they were unrecognizable.
Local residents hurried to the site following the explosion and transported the injured to a nearby hospital. They were subsequently transferred to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam, where the condition of two of the injured is reported to be critical.
Emergency services, including local police and fire brigades, arrived swiftly to extinguish the flames.
Home Minister V. Anitha, who visited the site of the explosion, confirmed that eight individuals, including two women, had died in the incident.
The victims have been identified as Appikonda Tatababu (50), S. Govind (40), Devara Nirmala (38), P. Papa (40), G. Venubabu (34), D. Ramalaxmi (35), Hemanth (20), and S. Baburao (55). Five of them were residents of the local area while the others had come from nearby villages.
The Home Minister announced a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for the families of the deceased. She also spoke with locals and senior officials.
Anitha instructed officials to ensure that the injured receive the best available medical care. A thorough investigation into the incident has been ordered, with assurances that action will be taken against those responsible.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh expressed their condolences regarding the incident.
