New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday conveyed his deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives due to a firecracker factory explosion in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh. He also declared ex-gratia compensation for the families of the deceased. “I am profoundly saddened by the loss of lives in a factory incident in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families. Wishing a swift recovery for the injured. The local authorities are providing support to those affected. An ex-gratia sum of Rs 2 lakh will be given from PMNRF to the next of kin of each victim, while the injured will receive Rs 50,000,” the Prime Minister’s Office communicated via a post on X.

In this unfortunate incident, at least eight individuals, including two women, lost their lives during a catastrophic explosion at a fireworks manufacturing facility located in Kailasapatnam village, part of Kotavuratla Mandal in Anakapalli district.

The firecracker unit was entirely consumed by the flames, which were initiated by the explosion. At the time of the incident, there were fourteen workers present in the facility.

Eight individuals succumbed to injuries at the scene, with their remains discovered severely damaged at the explosion site. Some were charred beyond recognition.

Six others who suffered critical injuries are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Appikonda Tatababu (50), S. Govind (40), Devara Nirmala (38), P. Papa (40), G. Venubabu (34), D. Ramalaxmi (35), Hemanth (20), and S. Baburao (55). Five of them were local residents, while the others had migrated from nearby villages.

According to initial findings from the Anakapalli district police, the explosion occurred around 12:45 p.m.

Firefighters battled the blaze for hours before finally bringing it under control.

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and instructed the district administration to ensure superior medical care for the injured.

Naidu further directed authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and provide a comprehensive report.

State Home Minister V. Anitha has been assigned by the Chief Minister to oversee rescue operations and ensure that victims receive appropriate medical attention.
