Ahmedabad, Dec 5 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming automotive logistics in India, Motherson, through its joint venture Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Ltd (SAMRX), has secured a partnership with Dighi Port Limited (DPL) — a subsidiary of Adani Ports — to create a specialized facility for auto exports at the Dighi Port in Maharashtra.
As one of APSEZ’s 15 strategic ports, Dighi is poised to enhance its capabilities to bolster India’s automotive development narrative under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, facilitating smooth export and import of vehicles for international markets.
“By merging APSEZ’s comprehensive infrastructure capabilities with Motherson’s industry expertise, we are establishing a streamlined, resilient network for vehicle transportation throughout the nation. This RoRo (Roll on and Roll off) terminal will not only expedite trade and improve supply chain efficiency but will also provide lasting benefits to our clients and the surrounding communities,” stated Ashwani Gupta, CEO and Whole-time Director of Adani Ports.
This strategic alliance will position Dighi Port as the new automobile export terminal for exporters in Mumbai to the Pune automotive region, as reported by the company.
According to Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson Group, this collaboration with APSEZ marks a pivotal advancement in our quest to deliver integrated, top-tier logistics solutions to the automotive sector.
By establishing this RoRo terminal at Dighi Port, “we are augmenting our service offerings and creating a strategic asset that will enhance efficiency and lower logistics costs for our OEM partners,” noted Sehgal, adding that this partnership will fortify India’s automotive supply chain and yield tangible benefits for our clients.
The new RoRo terminal will boast cutting-edge infrastructure to manage complete Finished Vehicle (FV) logistics, optimizing operations for major automotive OEMs.
SAMRX will invest in this terminal to vertically integrate its services, providing a holistic logistics solution with 360-degree cargo visibility.
Dighi Port serves as a key access point for Maharashtra’s landlocked industrial zones and core regions, offering closed warehouses, tank farms, and open stockyards for commodity storage.
With a current cargo handling capacity of 633 million tonnes per year, APSEZ captures approximately 28% of India's total port volumes, aiming for a throughput of one billion tonnes by 2030.
