Mumbai, Jan 14 (NationPress) The president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, Harshwardhan Sapkal, stated on Wednesday that the state is suffering from the electoral strategies orchestrated by Chief Minister Fadnavis, who aims to transform Maharashtra into Bihar.
"Citizens should be aware that Maharashtra is currently facing the repercussions of the electoral strategies designed by Chief Minister Fadnavis, who wishes to turn Maharashtra into Bihar," he remarked.
Sapkal urged the vigilant populace of Maharashtra to "identify the 'poisonous weed' cultivated by Devendra Fadnavis and the BJP and to persist until it is eradicated."
Additionally, Sapkal highlighted a grave incident in Ward No 1 of the Nanded Municipal Corporation, where the spouse of a Congress party candidate was attacked with a sword by unknown assailants in a life-threatening assault.
In Solapur, a candidate was killed, and murders have also occurred in Akot and Khalapur.
Numerous candidates throughout the state have faced threats, and their families have been intimidated, with the incident in Nanded serving as yet another instance of this pattern.
“Notably, all these candidates are from Opposition parties—those who dare to confront the corrupt nexus of goons and thugs currently in power. Is their only offense that they are resisting? Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis must provide answers to the people of Maharashtra," he continued.
Sapkal affirmed that in the recent municipal council elections, the public placed their faith in the Congress party, establishing it as the largest Opposition force in the state. They elected 41 municipal presidents and 1,006 councillors, finishing second in 2,000 locations.
“In the municipal corporation elections, voters should ensure that the Congress party’s candidates achieve a decisive victory. Without succumbing to any temptations, cast your vote to safeguard democracy and the Constitution,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the president of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee and MP Varsha Gaikwad claimed that the Congress party will hold the "key" to the municipal corporation, asserting that no party will be able to appoint a Mayor in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) without their backing.
Gaikwad dismissed assertions that the Congress has been marginalized in the Mumbai civic elections. "The political landscape of Mumbai is evolving. We are confident that the Congress will secure a significantly greater number of seats this time. In the aftermath of the elections, no one will be able to install a Mayor in the BMC without the involvement of the Congress," she asserted.
