Mumbai, Jan 14 (NationPress) The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Wednesday the launch of a central contracts system for its players. This initiative aims to provide financial security and structured support for the athletes.
This development comes four years after the association had tentatively agreed to a graded contract system, which had been sent to the Cricket Improvement Committee for further operational details, but was stalled until now.
“In a bid to promote long-term player development and well-being, the Apex Council has sanctioned central contracts for players, emphasizing its dedication to offering structured support and financial security to rising talent,” stated the MCA Apex Council in its announcement.
Additionally, MCA will initiate a T20 scouting tournament, serving as a feeder for the Mumbai T20 league, alongside starting an inter-collegiate tournament named after former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar.
“The Inter-College Tournament will be launched in honor of Dilip Vengsarkar, celebrating excellence, leadership, and the rich heritage of Mumbai cricket. This tournament will be a crucial platform for identifying and nurturing young talent at the collegiate level.
“In line with the evolving needs of modern cricket, a T20 tournament will be organized as a dedicated scouting ground for the T20 Mumbai League, creating a transparent and merit-based path for young players to advance to elite competitive levels,” added the MCA Apex Council.
The President, Ajinkya Naik, remarked that these progressive decisions are designed to construct a strong, inclusive, and sustainable cricketing ecosystem in Mumbai. “Our vision is to establish a solid pathway from college cricket to the pinnacle of the sport. Naming the Inter-College Tournament after Dilip Vengsarkar reflects the values of excellence and leadership that we wish for young cricketers to embody.
“Central contracts are a move towards empowering players with stability and confidence, while the T20 scouting tournament will ensure that Mumbai continues to identify and nurture talent for the future of the game,” he expressed.
