Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking development, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) unveiled a new central contract system for its players on Thursday, aiming to enhance financial security and establish a professional framework for rising talents.
With this innovative approach, MCA has become the pioneering state unit in India to implement a formalized player contract system. The contracts will be categorized into three tiers, determined by performance metrics, fitness standards, and input from the senior selection committee.
The Grade A category will provide an annual retainer ranging from Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, while Grade B is set between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 12 lakh. Players categorized as Grade C will receive a fixed retainer of Rs 8 lakh.
“This initiative signifies a transformative phase for Mumbai cricket. We take pride in being the first association to adopt a player contract system - a forward-thinking move that will ensure increased security, structure, and opportunities for our Mumbai players. It embodies our mission to fortify the foundation of Mumbai cricket and empower the upcoming generation of cricketers,” stated MCA President Ajinkya Naik.
The primary goals of this initiative are to offer financial stability to Mumbai players, create a structured professional atmosphere, promote consistent performance and fitness, establish a robust pipeline for higher-level cricket, and retain and nurture emerging talent within the Mumbai cricket community.
These retainers will complement the existing match fees, daily allowances, and performance-based bonuses provided under MCA’s policies. However, the MCA has not clarified if the contracts will encompass both male and female cricketers.
“This initiative heralds a new era by delivering financial security, a professional framework, and long-term development pathways for emerging cricketers. The system is tailored to support players poised for higher honors, ensuring stability and motivation for consistent performance at the domestic level,” the MCA added.
