Bhopal, Sep 11 (NationPress) Senior Congress MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Umang Singhar, fiercely criticized the ruling BJP on Thursday, accusing it of disregarding farmers’ needs and poorly managing fertilizer distribution in the state.
Singhar specifically targeted both Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, claiming that even with adequate fertilizer stock, farmers in Madhya Pradesh were not receiving supplies due to a “political divide” between the two leaders.
“The Central government states there is no fertilizer shortage. The issue resides within the state’s distribution framework. The conflict between Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Mohan Yadav has thrown farmers into turmoil,” Singhar stated during a press conference in Bhopal.
He also criticized BJP national president J.P. Nadda, highlighting that despite an annual budget exceeding Rs 1.5 lakh crore under his ministry, farmers are still being denied fertilizers. “If Shivraj, Mohan Yadav, and J.P. Nadda cannot resolve farmers’ issues together, it clearly demonstrates the government’s incompetence and lack of teamwork,” he remarked.
Referring to the Centre’s bulletin from May-June 2025, Singhar noted that the supply of DAP and urea in Madhya Pradesh is greater than consumption, yet farmers are being met with police force while requesting supplies. “The core issue is not a shortage, but rather the state government’s failure in planning and execution,” he claimed.
With agriculture accounting for over 45 percent of Madhya Pradesh’s economy, Singhar expressed disbelief that the state, ranked second in the nation for fertilizer demand and usage, is unable to provide timely deliveries to farmers.
This condemnation occurs just before a Congress protest in Ujjain, the home district of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, aimed at underscoring farmers’ grievances.
State Congress head Jitu Patwari will spearhead the demonstration on Friday, which will feature senior leaders such as former CM Digvijaya Singh, Sajjan Singh Verma, MP in-charge Harish Choudhary, and former Rajasthan Deputy CM Sachin Pilot.
