Bhopal, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced on Wednesday that district administrations are to evaluate the extent of crop damage caused by unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms across various regions of the state.

In a media interaction, Yadav revealed that he has been informed about the crops affected by the hailstorm and reassured that the government will carry out assessments to compensate the farmers.

“I have received reports regarding the untimely rains, and I have directed district administrations to survey the crops harmed by hailstorms. The state government stands firmly with the farmers,” Yadav emphasized.

This statement by the Chief Minister brings relief to farmers who have suffered severe losses following the heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Reports indicate that the unseasonal rain accompanied by hail primarily impacted the Gwalior-Chambal and Malwa-Nimar regions.

The combination of heavy rain and strong winds, coupled with large hailstones, has devastated wheat and gram crops. In Ujjain's rural districts, a fierce hailstorm obliterated crops including wheat, potato, garlic, onion, and gram.

Tragically, the enormous loss led to a farmer from Ujjain’s Tarana area taking his own life after witnessing the destruction of his fields. The individual, identified as Pankaj Malviya (30), hailed from Kheda Jamunia village, approximately 50 km from the district headquarters.

In response to this incident, Congress MLA from Tarana, Mahesh Parmar, has called for an immediate assessment of the damaged crops. “Pankaj owned about six bighas of land, where he had cultivated wheat. The entire harvest was lost due to the hailstorm. I have urged the government to conduct a prompt survey of the damaged crops,” he stated.

Parmar further informed IANS that both wheat and several other seasonal crops have suffered damage across various villages in Tarana and other regions of Ujjain district. He confirmed that the Ujjain district administration is committed to conducting a survey.

Point of View

It is crucial for the government to act swiftly and provide the necessary support to those affected. This commitment to assess damages shows a proactive approach towards safeguarding the livelihoods of farmers, ensuring their resilience in these challenging times.
