Jaipur, July 6 (NationPress) The Indian Bureau of Mines is set to organize a significant ceremony at the Rajasthan International Centre on Monday to honor the achievements of 7 & 5-star rated mines across the country for the year 2023-24, as per a communication from the Ministry of Mines released on Sunday.
During this prestigious event, a total of three 7-star rated mines and 95 5-star rated mines will be recognized for their outstanding performance in 2023-24. The program assesses mining activities nationwide within the Sustainable Development Framework, which is primarily designed to promote inclusive growth while protecting the social, economic, and environmental welfare of both current and future generations.
Union Minister of Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy will serve as the Chief Guest, alongside Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Minister of State for Coal & Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, who will attend as esteemed guests of honor. Additionally, Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, is also expected to grace the occasion.
The Star Rating of Mines, initiated in 2014-15, has received extensive praise within the mining sector for cultivating a constructive and competitive atmosphere among mine operators.
The accolades from the Union Minister and the recognition at the national level have significantly motivated miners to enhance their practices, resulting in tangible advantages for both the mining industry and local communities, as stated.
In parallel, the Coal Ministry has introduced RECLAIM – a framework for community engagement and development pertaining to mine closures, aiming to improve both landscapes and local livelihoods.
This framework represents a crucial step towards ensuring a just and sustainable transition for communities that have evolved alongside mining operations over many years.
The RECLAIM framework acts as a structured guideline for inclusive community engagement and development during the mine closure and post-closure stages, providing a practical, systematic approach to institutionalizing community participation in the transition process.
