Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 29 (NationPress) A significant blaze erupted in a multi-storey apartment complex located in Chand Bagh, close to Bhajanpura, Delhi, during the early hours of Sunday, trapping numerous residents inside.
The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) acted swiftly upon receiving emergency calls from locals reporting the incident at F Block, Gali No. 23.
The initial response team consisted of four water tenders (WT), one water bowser (WB), a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV), a turntable ladder (TTL), and a mobile pump (MP). The operation was spearheaded by Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Deepak Hooda, alongside Station Officer (SO) Anoop Singh and SO Hari Shankar.
Fire Officer Anoop Singh stated, "The alert came in at approximately 2:30-2:32 a.m. regarding a fire in Chand Bagh. Upon my arrival, I noted the deployment of 11 fire tenders... Before I reached the site, four individuals had already jumped from the building and were transported to the hospital. The fire is suspected to have originated from two scooters and a motorcycle parked on the ground floor."
In response to the escalating situation, Officer Hari Shankar issued a “Make-4” call to intensify the response efforts. This led to the dispatch of two more water tenders, an additional water bowser, and SO Sundar, raising the total number of units present at the scene to eleven. All units remained active until the fire was successfully controlled.
As per DFS reports, prior to the arrival of the rescue team, four people had leaped from the first floor to escape the flames. They were quickly taken to Jag Pravesh Chand Hospital for medical care. The injured included Nikhat (22), Rashida (50), Soni (25), and Ashif (2), all of whom suffered minor injuries and were later discharged after receiving treatment.
At the same time, DFS personnel managed to rescue four additional residents trapped on the second, third, and fourth floors. Those rescued included Suved (12), Duved (10), Aarifa (28), and Farah (14), all of whom were also taken for medical assessment and treatment.
Investigation Officer Sub Inspector Mahipal Singh from the Dayalpur Police Station confirmed the incident's particulars. The DFS commended the courage and rapid action of its personnel, which helped avert further casualties.
Despite the fire occurring in a densely populated area that instigated panic among locals, the coordinated efforts of the DFS and prompt medical response limited the casualties. Authorities are continuing to investigate the fire's cause and have assured residents of enhanced safety protocols in the area.
