Mumbai, April 26 (NationPress) A tragic fire incident claimed the life of a 34-year-old woman and left six others, including a 10-day-old infant, injured in a high-rise residential building located in Lokhandwala, Andheri (West), early Saturday morning, according to the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

The deceased, Abhina Kartik Sanjanvalia, was pronounced dead en route to Cooper Hospital. Her relative, Kartik Sanjanvalia, aged 40, is currently receiving treatment for smoke inhalation, as reported by officials.

Five fire tenders were deployed to combat the blaze, which ignited around 2:40 AM in the Broke Land Building near Ashok Academy Lane. The fire was contained to room number 104 on the first floor and extinguished by 5:30 AM, according to official statements.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) suspects that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire in the eight-story building. However, the precise cause of the incident remains under investigation.

The fire damaged various items within the flat, including furniture, mattresses, clothing, as well as air-conditioning units and electrical systems, as noted by officials.

In addition to the deceased, the injured residents, who were taken to Kokilaben Hospital, include: Pradumna Gupta (10-day-old baby boy), Rihan (3 years), Daya Gupta (21), Aparna Gupta (41), and Polam Gupta (40).

This incident brings back painful memories of a previous fire in Lokhandwala last October, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a visually impaired person.

Following that fire at the Riya Palace building, a 37-year-old structure situated at Cross Road Number 4 of Lokhandwala Complex, there were renewed calls for establishing a fire station on a plot designated for this purpose three decades ago.

The October 2024 fire started on the 10th floor around 8 AM and was extinguished by 9 PM. The victims were identified as Kanta Soni (74), Chandraprakash Soni (74), and Pelubeta (42).

In another separate fire incident on Saturday in Maharashtra, a plywood warehouse was engulfed in flames in Thane district. This fire began at around 3:30 AM in a three-story building located in Rahnal village, Bhiwandi, and firefighters battled the flames for several hours.

During the firefighting efforts, a firefighter from the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) suffered a leg fracture. Officials noted that the substantial stockpile of plywood presented a significant challenge for firefighters trying to control the blaze.
