Kolkata, Jan 29 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has apprehended a total of five individuals tied to drug trafficking, including a woman. Over Rs 1 crore worth of illegal drugs have been confiscated during the operation.

The STF is actively pursuing further inquiries into this case.

As reported by police sources, an STF team executed a raid on Wednesday at Canal West Road in the Ultadanga Police Station area of north Kolkata, leading to the arrest of a local woman, Asma Khatun Peyada (42), along with the recovery of 1.325 kilograms of heroin.

This woman will soon be presented in court, where authorities will seek her custody.

In connection with the same investigation, four other suspects were taken into custody on January 25. Additionally, a vehicle was seized in the Daktar Bagan area under the Nimta Police Station along the Belgharia Expressway in North 24 Parganas district. In total, 3 kilograms of a substance used to amplify heroin addiction, alongside 410 grams of heroin, were recovered.

The individuals arrested have been identified as Md Rafique (55), from Narkeldanga in north Kolkata; Abhishek Karmakar (30), from Duttapukur in North 24 Parganas; Hasem Ali (30), from Barasat in the same district; and Brindaban Das Bairagya (34), from Kaliganj in Nadia district.

A senior STF officer stated, "With the latest arrest, the total number of arrests in this case has reached five. The estimated value of the confiscated drugs in the grey market exceeds Rs 1 crore. Ongoing investigations will explore the drug trafficking network and potential additional suspects involved in this case."

According to police sources, the prior arrests in this case were kept under wraps to apprehend other gang members. Information gathered from interrogating the four suspects led to the discovery of the woman trafficker, resulting in her arrest.
