New Delhi/Agartala, September 25 (NationPress) - Union Minister for the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has committed to providing comprehensive support for enhancing tourism infrastructure in Tripura, as stated by the state’s Tourism Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, on Thursday.

Following a meeting with the DoNER Minister in Delhi, Chowdhury expressed that he urged Scindia to allocate funding aimed at developing infrastructure to elevate tourism within this northeastern state.

“The DoNER Minister assured all possible assistance to bolster the tourism sector in Tripura,” the Tourism Minister noted in a Facebook post.

Chowdhury, who also manages the Transport portfolio, elaborated on the ongoing initiatives and future aspirations of Tripura’s Tourism Department to the Union Minister.

“I also requested his essential support to advance several new tourism projects with the financial backing of the DoNER Ministry. Scindia promised his full cooperation for the development of tourism in Tripura,” the Minister emphasized.

Present during the meeting were Tourism Department Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma and Director Prashant Badal Negi. Chowdhury also shared on Facebook that he met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, updating her on the Tourism Department's ongoing efforts and future plans.

“I also requested her support to progress some new projects of the department. The Union Finance Minister assured her unwavering cooperation for the enhancement of tourism in Tripura.”

Both the Secretary and the Director of the Tourism Department were in attendance.

In the meantime, fulfilling a long-standing public expectation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple on September 22, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas revered in Hinduism, located in southern Tripura’s Udaipur.

A senior Tourism Department official revealed that under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) initiative of the Union Tourism Ministry, the 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple has been restored at a cost exceeding Rs 54 crore.

The central government contributed Rs 34.43 crore, while the Tripura government added Rs 17.61 crore to this project.

The temple, constructed in 1501 by the state's former king Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in Udaipur, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas across the country and ranks as the third such shrine in eastern India, following the Kali temple in Kolkata’s Kalighat and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.

Point of View

The commitment shown by the Union Ministers to support Tripura's tourism infrastructure is a vital step towards promoting regional development. It signifies a broader strategy to enhance the appeal of northeastern states, encouraging both domestic and international tourism, which can significantly boost local economies.
