Chandigarh, Aug 9 (NationPress) In a significant development concerning a prominent drug trafficking case from 2015, the Punjab Police have apprehended one of the primary suspects, Joga Singh, who formerly served as the Personal Security Officer (PSO) to Congress legislator Sukhpal Singh Khaira.
Acting on intelligence reports, a team from the CISF arrested Joga Singh at the Delhi Airport. The Punjab Police had been monitoring his activities closely for an extended period and maintained communication with various central agencies.
A leader from the Aam Aadmi Party, Baltej Pannu, asserted that Singh's arrest would unveil numerous hidden truths, assisting the police in uncovering all dubious occurrences associated with the case.
Pannu added that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted into every detail surrounding the incident, and all individuals implicated in the crime will face consequences. He mentioned that Joga Singh was allegedly attempting to escape from India.
A case has been filed against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Fazilka town. It was indicated that during the time in question, the drug-related communications that Sukhpal Khaira received were primarily handled by Joga Singh.
"Thus, with his arrest, the investigation will progress, revealing many concealed facts," Pannu stated. The case involving Joga Singh has previously implicated Congress leader and ex-AAP member Sukhpal Singh Khaira.
Khaira has faced arrest twice in this matter and is currently out on bail. In relation to this case, the Fazilka Police had detained nine individuals, who were discovered with 2 kg of heroin, 24 gold biscuits, and two Pakistani SIM cards.
In January of the previous year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who represents the Bholath constituency in the Kapurthala district, regarding the 2015 drug case.
In September 2023, Punjab Police apprehended him following a raid at his residence in Chandigarh.
