Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Dec 30 (NationPress) In a significant operation, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a cross-border drug trafficking syndicate linked to handlers in Pakistan. Seven individuals were apprehended, with a total seizure of 4.075 kg of heroin, 1 kg of methamphetamine (known as ICE), and a 9mm Glock pistol, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The suspects include Judgebir Singh, alias Judge (21), from Jasraur village in Amritsar; Jaspal Singh, alias Jass (22), from Ajnala in Amritsar; Anmolpreet Singh (19) from Lopa village in Gurdaspur; Harpinder Singh, alias Bhinda (32), from Sandalpur village in Gurdaspur; Tarunpreet Singh (20), also from Sandalpur; Dawinder Singh, alias Bau (33), from Bua Nangli village in Amritsar; and Mandeep Singh (24), from the same village.
DGP Yadav indicated that initial investigations have shown that the drugs were smuggled from Pakistan and disseminated throughout the state via local networks directed through social media.
The operation is ongoing to identify further connections related to this case. Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar reported that police acted on credible intelligence, initially detaining Judgebir Singh, from whom 225 grams of heroin was seized.
Further inquiries and digital communication analysis led to the arrest of Jaspal Singh, who had 1.6 kg of heroin in his possession. Continuing the crackdown, police subsequently apprehended Anmolpreet Singh, Harpinder Singh, and Tarunpreet Singh, resulting in the recovery of an additional 2.2 kg of heroin. This investigation has uncovered that these suspects were functioning as couriers and distributors under the direct orders of handlers located in Pakistan, who coordinated narcotics drops across districts.
During the operation, Bhullar noted that another segment of the network was uncovered when Dawinder and Mandeep Singh were caught during a routine patrol, along with a 9mm Glock pistol and a motorcycle. Intensive questioning led to the discovery of 1 kg of ICE from their possession.
Bhullar further revealed that background checks indicated that Judgebir had prior involvement in an attempted murder case, while Jaspal Singh is under prosecution for violations of the Arms Act, and Dawinder Singh faces two charges under the NDPS Act. Notably, Dawinder returned to India one and a half years ago after living in Dubai for nearly a decade, during which he established connections with international drug traffickers.
