Mandya (Karnataka), April 3 (NationPress) In a devastating incident, four individuals lost their lives instantly when their vehicle was collided with by a luxury bus operated by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, known as Airavat, on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway on Thursday.
The crash transpired at the highway exit near Tubinakere village, adjacent to Mandya city.
The victims have been identified as Satyananda Raje Urs (51), his spouse Nischita (45), Chandru (62), and Chandru's wife Suvedini Rani (50).
As per police reports, the tragedy occurred when the driver of the car, while navigating the expressway and aiming to exit onto the service road, unexpectedly re-entered the highway without noticing the fast-approaching bus from behind.
The bus driver, unable to avert the impending collision, crashed into the car from behind, resulting in the catastrophic incident. The collision was so intense that the car was utterly wrecked, claiming the lives of all four passengers on the spot, police indicated.
Officials employed a crane to detach the car, which was wedged against the bus, before recovering the bodies and transferring them to a local hospital's mortuary. The incident triggered a significant traffic congestion on the bustling Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.
Southern Range DIG M.B. Boralingaiah and Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi hurried to the scene.
Initial investigations have indicated that the driver’s confusion—attempting to re-enter the highway after initially heading towards the service road—was a contributing factor to the calamity. Nevertheless, police mentioned that the precise circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.
Authorities have enforced various strategies to mitigate accidents on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, including a speed limit of 100 km per hour. The vehicle was en route from Bengaluru towards Mysuru.
