Bengaluru, March 23 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking incident, four individuals lost their lives in a devastating road crash on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway close to Sankalagere village in the Channapatna taluk of Karnataka's Ramanagara district early Monday morning.
The victims were identified as Mohammed Farhan, aged 22, and Sulfi, aged 45, both from Kozhikode in Kerala, alongside Rasheed, also 45, a resident of Kalasipalya in Bengaluru, and Saker from Annepalya in Adugodi.
As per police reports, a private bus operated by PK Travels, which was en route from Calicut in Kerala to Bengaluru, lost control and crashed into the roadside fencing at approximately 4:10 a.m. Initial investigations indicate that the driver might have dozed off, resulting in the tragic accident.
The force of the collision was intense, causing the immediate deaths of four passengers.
Two additional passengers, identified as Abdul and Allen from Kannur in Kerala, suffered injuries and have been hospitalized for medical care.
Authorities reported that the bus had departed from Calicut late on Sunday night, carrying a total of 42 passengers at the time of the incident. The impact was so severe that the bus traveled nearly 100 meters post-collision before coming to a stop.
Officials remarked that the lack of a crash barrier could have resulted in even more fatalities, but a greater disaster was narrowly avoided.
The Channapatna traffic police swiftly arrived at the scene, conducted an investigation, and filed a report. The driver, identified as Riyaz, has been detained for further questioning.
The bodies of the deceased and the injured individuals have been moved to the Channapatna Government Hospital, with ongoing investigations to follow.
