Two KSRTC Buses Collide, Injuring 35 Passengers in Kerala

Kannur, Dec 3 (NationPress) About 35 passengers on two state-operated Kerala State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC) buses were injured in a collision that occurred near Peravur in Kannur district of Kerala on Monday.

One bus was en route from Mananthavady to Payyanur, while the other was headed to Mananthavady.

The condition of one passenger is reported to be serious, while the others sustained minor injuries.

This incident happened on a narrow segment of the main road, where the area had experienced heavy rainfall.

Local residents were the first to assist with rescue efforts before the Fire department and Police arrived to transport the injured to nearby medical facilities.

Initial investigations indicate that the reduced visibility due to rain may have played a role in the accident. The force of the impact significantly damaged the front of one bus.

In a separate tragic event, five first-year MBBS students lost their lives after their car collided with a state-operated KSRTC bus near Alappuzha Medical College hospital on Monday night, according to law enforcement.

The deceased students were identified as Mohammed, Muhasin, Ibrahim, Devanand, and Shreedeep.

The crash occurred after 9 p.m. when the Tavera car, reportedly traveling at high speed, skidded and struck the KSRTC bus, which was making its way from Guruvayur to Kayamkulam.

Eyewitnesses stated that the car was severely damaged and tossed the medical students from the vehicle.

Three students died immediately at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries en route to the Alappuzha Medical College hospital.

Two additional medical students are currently hospitalized, with one in critical condition.

Reports suggest that a total of 10 students were in the car at the time of the incident.

The Vice-Chairman of Alappuzha Municipality, P. S. M. Hussain, mentioned that the car was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it lost control and collided with the approaching bus.

The students were reportedly en route to Kochi.

"We are waiting for the CCTV footage as the accident occurred in a location equipped with cameras," Hussain stated.

The bus driver reported that the car was speeding and despite his efforts to prevent the head-on collision, it was unavoidable.

The Tavera car was completely wrecked.

Following the accident, traffic in the area was severely disrupted. Authorities are still working to determine the precise cause of the collision, according to police reports.

The Police and the Motor Vehicles Department have initiated an investigation into this incident.
