Bengaluru, Jan 22 (NationPress) A devastating series of road accidents in Karnataka resulted in the loss of at least 14 lives, with three being students, and left 25 others injured across two separate incidents in the Karwar and Raichur districts on Wednesday.

In the first incident, a truck carrying both individuals and vegetables overturned on National Highway 63 in the Gullapura Ghatta area of Yellapura taluk in Karwar district, leading to the immediate death of 10 individuals and injuring another 15.

The injured victims were promptly taken to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) located in Hubballi.

One survivor reported to law enforcement that a loud noise resembling a tyre burst was heard just before the truck flipped over.

The victims hailed from Savanur village in the Haveri district and were all vegetable vendors who traveled to the local market weekly. Tragically, when the truck overturned, the cargo of vegetables fell upon them.

Initial investigations suggest that the driver lost control due to foggy weather conditions early in the morning, which contributed to the crash.

Local Yellapura police arrived swiftly to assist and transported the injured to medical facilities.

Cranes were utilized to recover the bodies from the wreckage.

Karwar Superintendent of Police, Narayana M, also visited the site to oversee the rescue efforts.

The deceased were identified as Fayaz Jamakhandi (45), Wasim Mudageri (35), Ejaz Mulla (20), Sadiq Basha (30), Ghulam Hussain Javali (40), Imtiyaz Mulakeri (36), Alfaz Jaffer Mandakki (25), Jilani Abdul Jakhati (25), and Aslam Babuli Benni (24).

In a separate incident, four individuals, including three students, lost their lives when the vehicle they were in overturned near Araginamara Camp close to Sindhanur town in Raichur district.

According to police reports, this accident occurred following a tyre burst in the vehicle. Another 10 individuals were injured in this mishap. The deceased were identified as: Shiva (24), the driver; Ayyavandan (18); Sujendra (22); and Abhishek (20), all students from the Sanskrit Pathshala in Mantralaya.

The injured victims were transported to Sindhanur Taluk Hospital. The local traffic police have filed a report and are actively investigating the incident. The students were en route from Mantralaya to Hampi to attend the Narahari worship event.

Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his sorrow and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

"I am profoundly saddened to learn of the two tragic accidents in Yellapur of Uttara Kannada and Sindhanur of Raichur, which have tragically claimed a total of 14 lives. I pray for the eternal peace of those who have departed," stated CM Siddaramaiah.

He further assured that the government would provide appropriate compensation to the bereaved families.
