New Delhi, Oct 25 (NationPress) In a significant achievement for law enforcement, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), working alongside the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has successfully repatriated the notorious fugitive Lakhvinder Kumar from the United States. The CBI announced this on Saturday.

Kumar, who is a prominent member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was deported and landed in India on October 25, 2025, where he was promptly apprehended by a team from Haryana Police at Delhi Airport.

As per the CBI, Kumar is implicated in numerous criminal activities in Haryana, including extortion, intimidation, illegal possession and use of firearms, as well as attempted murder.

Following a request from Haryana Police, the CBI had initiated an INTERPOL Red Notice against him on October 26, 2024, which ultimately led to his identification and deportation.

As India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, the CBI efficiently collaborated with US authorities through the BHARATPOL platform, ensuring effective information sharing and extradition procedures.

An INTERPOL Red Notice acts as a global alert for locating and provisionally arresting fugitives pending extradition.

In recent years, the CBI has successfully orchestrated the return of over 130 wanted criminals via such international collaborations.

This operation signifies another important advancement in India’s relentless battle against transnational organized crime and its commitment to bring fugitives hiding overseas to justice.

Remarkably, just last month, the CBI, in conjunction with Haryana Police, MEA, and MHA, successfully facilitated the return of wanted fugitive Mainpal Dhilla alias Sonu Kumar on September 2, 2025, from Cambodia.

Dhilla is a notorious figure sought by Haryana Police for multiple offenses.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, attempted murder, illegal use of firearms, and criminal conspiracy on March 29, 2013, in a case registered as FIR No. 276 dated September 26, 2007, at Police Station Sadar Bahadurgarh.

In a similar vein, last month, in collaboration with Gujarat Police and central government ministries, the CBI successfully repatriated a fugitive from the UAE linked to a money laundering and tax evasion case registered in Gujarat.

Harshit Babulal Jain, wanted by Gujarat Police for tax evasion, illegal gambling, and money laundering, was deported from the UAE and handed over to Gujarat Police on September 5 at Ahmedabad International Airport.

Point of View

This operation underscores the effectiveness of international cooperation in law enforcement. The CBI's ability to coordinate with various ministries and foreign authorities showcases India's commitment to bringing fugitives to justice, thereby reinforcing the rule of law and public safety.
