New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha has enacted the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), known as the VB-G RAM G Bill, which aims to supersede the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), introduced during the UPA government, by ensuring guaranteed employment in rural sectors.
This new legislation is designed to offer a statutory guarantee of 125 days of paid employment, an increase from the 100 days provided under MGNREGA, while also placing a requirement for 40 percent funding from state governments.
The enhancement in guaranteed employment days has generated excitement and joy among villagers, who are optimistic that this will open up better opportunities and elevate their living standards.
In Jharkhand’s Koderma, numerous residents from underprivileged families expressed their satisfaction regarding the proposed transition from MGNREGA to this new law.
Many welcomed the updated legislation, emphasizing that farmers and villagers can now secure 125 days of employment locally, which will significantly reduce the necessity for young individuals to migrate to other states for work. Others indicated that this might help mitigate migration.
“The new title is comprehensive, impactful, and resonates well within the community. We are genuinely grateful to the Prime Minister for this initiative,” a Koderma local stated in an interview with IANS.
Additional residents from Koderma shared that the 125 days of employment and other livelihood initiatives would afford them the chance to become foundational contributors to the Viksit Bharat mission 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In Punjab’s Pathankot, residents also showed support for the new legislation, which is anticipated to replace MGNREGA following approval from the Rajya Sabha.
Families in the villages of Bungul and Badhani in Pathankot expressed their appreciation for the Lok Sabha's passage of the G RAM G bill and looked forward to its confirmation by the Upper House. They expressed gratitude to PM Modi for the new legislation, anticipating an increase in their daily wages, which will assist poor families in managing their livelihoods more effectively.
