They were joined by Sandeep Dikshit, the Congress candidate for the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
The voting process commenced early in the day and is set to continue until 6 p.m. With close to 3,000 polling booths categorized as sensitive, security measures have been intensified, featuring the deployment of 220 paramilitary force companies, 35,626 personnel from the Delhi Police, and 19,000 Home Guards.
To maintain law and order, measures such as drone surveillance and Quick Reaction Teams have been established.
Earlier that day, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, also cast his vote and encouraged the people of Delhi to vote for the city’s advancement.
Several prominent Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera, Ajay Maken, and Devender Yadav, also participated in the voting process and motivated citizens to engage actively in the democratic exercise.
They expressed that the people of Delhi are “longing for the era of Sheila Dikshit” and voiced optimism regarding the Congress party’s prospects in the elections.
Highlighting the importance of voting, they urged Delhi residents to express their opinions through the ballot.
As polling unfolds across all 70 Assembly segments, the leaders reiterated the necessity of electing a government that is focused on development, governance, and the welfare of the populace.
The elections will ascertain whether the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) maintains its stronghold, if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) makes a comeback, or if the Congress re-establishes itself as a formidable player. The election results will be announced on February 8.
In the previous 2020 Assembly elections, the AAP achieved a sweeping victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP secured eight, and the Congress did not win any seats for the second consecutive time.
As the polling progresses, the focus is on voter turnout and emerging electoral trends.
