Bhopal, Sep 9 (NationPress) Instances of stone pelting during the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols in various locations across Madhya Pradesh, notably Bhopal and Burhanpur, have escalated communal tensions within the state.

Several leaders from the BJP and right-wing factions criticized the district administration and law enforcement for their inability to uphold law and order. They called for stringent measures against those accountable and warned of potential reactions if such incidents during Hindu festivals continue unchecked.

A procession in Bhopal's Arif Nagar neighborhood was attacked on Monday night, leading to public outrage and a temporary gherao of the Gautam Nagar police station. Subsequently, the police filed an FIR and indicated that three suspects had been identified in an initial investigation.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra stated that the situation is under scrutiny and urged for calm while evidence is gathered.

Senior BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma accused individuals from the minority community of being behind the assault.

“This is not a government that serves biryani. Celebrate your festivals in peace and don’t disrupt Hindu celebrations. If not, Hindus will feel compelled to respond, and that could lead to uncontrollable situations,” remarked Sharma, a veteran legislator from the Huzur assembly seat.

Minister Vishwas Sarang emphasized, “Should there be any attempts to disrupt the festivities, we will take strict action. An FIR is filed; no disruptions will be tolerated, and no one will escape accountability.”

In Burhanpur district, three individuals suffered injuries on Sunday night due to stones reportedly thrown at a Ganesh immersion procession. A significant security presence was established, and the situation was swiftly managed. Police later detained seven individuals from both factions.

Local right-wing activist Chandrashekhar Tiwari from the Sanskriti Bachao Manch also issued a cautionary note.

“How much longer will Hindus endure targeted attacks on our religious celebrations? If action meets reaction, curfews may need to be enforced in Madhya Pradesh,” he stated in a video circulating online.
