Giorgia Meloni: A Leader in Resonance with PM Modi, Says Italian Ambassador

New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Italian Ambassador to India, Antonio Bartoli, holds the view that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an extraordinary political leader possessing an exceptional ability to engage with the public.
In a special interview with IANS, the experienced diplomat pointed out that strong leadership is a trait that both Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and PM Modi share.
"Prime Minister Modi is an extraordinary political leader. People can form their own opinions, whether in agreement or disagreement, but he has an extraordinary capacity to connect with people. A glance at his X account is all it takes... He has the capability to build, which is essential for leaders, to provide direction to the populace, and to craft a narrative—not just any narrative, but one that encourages us to aim for significant goals, such as the 2047 vision," asserted Bartoli.
Commending India's impressive growth trajectory in the past decade, the Italian Ambassador noted that India is achieving substantial progress across various sectors, which is reflected in its remarkable economic advancement.
"You are a young nation with a median age of 28, which ensures you will continue to be youthful. Your educational standards are commendable and should be further enhanced. All foundational elements are working in your favor, and because you are a vast democracy, which aligns with our values in Italy and Europe, we are keen to strengthen our partnership with India," remarked Bartoli.
Describing the current phase as an unprecedented era in the dynamic India-Italy bilateral relationship, the Ambassador emphasized how the political leadership in both nations is actively fortifying the strategic partnership and enhancing collaboration in the Indo-Pacific and Mediterranean regions.
While Prime Minister Modi remains the world’s most popular leader and one of the most influential figures globally, Meloni was recently acknowledged as the most powerful individual in Europe.
"One of her significant strengths is her coherence and resolve. The Italian government under her leadership is among the most stable in Europe. I would argue it is one of the most stable globally, especially in a time of shifting political landscapes where leadership changes frequently. Her coalition has maintained stability for around 30 years with the same parties," explained Bartoli.
"She exhibits strong leadership, a characteristic she shares with PM Modi. This commonality fosters a personal chemistry, which is crucial in today’s political environment for nurturing and developing inter-state relationships, resulting in a bilateral relationship that is flourishing with remarkable vigor," he told IANS.
Over the past two years, the two leaders have convened five times, most recently in Rio de Janeiro during last month's G20 Summit in Brazil, where they delineated a range of targeted, time-sensitive initiatives and a collaborative strategic action plan aimed at deepening their partnership.
"Regardless of their differing political backgrounds, the shared objective is to pursue national interests without being constrained by preconceived notions or ideologies. This is how Italy is advancing its agenda within the European Union, and it mirrors India’s role as a global player," noted the Italian Ambassador.
He highlighted that India is at the forefront of discussions in Italy among businesses, academia, and think tanks.
"There exists a sense of respect and admiration, along with an understanding that allows us to empathize with each other's perspectives and collaboratively develop projects. Thus, the hashtag 'Melodi' transcends mere rhetoric; it embodies a shared vision evidenced by the intensifying relations," stated Bartoli.
