New Delhi, Dec 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, has initiated a magisterial inquiry following a tragic fire at a nightclub in Arpora, taking decisive action against those accountable. Sawant visited the scene early in the morning to evaluate the extent of the damage and oversee rescue efforts. He confirmed to NDTV that the nightclub's general manager has been taken into custody, and an arrest warrant has been issued for the club's owner.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the government will ensure responsibility is established at every level and promised stringent penalties for anyone or any establishment that fails to adhere to safety regulations.

He also instructed local authorities to expedite assistance for the families of victims and to liaise with hospitals treating the injured.

The fire erupted around midnight, trapping many individuals inside the nightclub, leading to deaths from suffocation.

When questioned about potential negligence related to the nightclub fire, CM Sawant stated that an investigation has been commissioned to determine if proper fire safety protocols were followed.

In a statement on X, he expressed, "I am closely monitoring the situation following the unfortunate fire incident in Arpora, which has resulted in the loss of 25 lives and left 6 individuals injured. Fortunately, all six injured are stable and receiving optimal medical attention. I have ordered a comprehensive inquiry into this incident to ascertain the cause and assign liability."

The Governor of Goa, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, conveyed his deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the families affected by the fire.

He remarked that this tragedy has cast a shadow over the state and urged authorities to extend all possible support to the injured and their families. He highlighted the necessity for coordinated assistance and urged various departments to prioritize relief efforts.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that he had consulted with Chief Minister Sawant for updates on the situation. In a post on X, he remarked, "The fire incident in Arpora, Goa is profoundly distressing. My thoughts are with all those mourning the loss of their loved ones. May the injured recover swiftly."

The fire, which started at Birch by Romeo Lane in the bustling Baga area of Arpora, has caused widespread shock throughout the region. Large crowds gathered outside hospitals as authorities worked to identify victims, many of whom were late-night staff members.

The Goa Police confirmed that the fire claimed 25 lives, including four tourists and 14 staff members, while efforts continue to identify seven more victims. Rescue and forensic teams are currently investigating the site as part of ongoing efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
