New Delhi, Oct 11 (NationPress) US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor expressed his enthusiasm on Saturday, stating that he had an “incredible meeting” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his initial remarks during the ongoing six-day visit to India, following his confirmation by the US Senate as the next Ambassador to India, Gor shared, “I had an incredible meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We discussed trade, critical minerals and defence.”
On the same day, Gor engaged in multiple meetings before meeting PM Modi in the evening.
PM Modi later shared on X, “Glad to receive Mr. Sergio Gor, Ambassador-designate of the US to India. I’m confident that his tenure will further strengthen the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.”
As a gesture of goodwill, Gor presented PM Modi with a large framed photograph of Modi and US President Donald Trump from a White House press conference earlier this year, which was signed by Trump.
Gor is visiting India alongside Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J Rigas from October 9 to 14. During their visit, they will hold discussions with Indian government officials on a variety of bilateral matters.
The US Embassy in India stated, “The United States will continue to work with India to strengthen our strategic partnership and promote a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”
Earlier in the day, Gor also met with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar to discuss the significance of the India-US relationship.
After their meeting, EAM Jaishankar tweeted, “Pleased to meet Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor of the US today in New Delhi. Discussed the India-US relationship and its global significance. Wish him the best for his new responsibility.”
Gor further met with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, where they had a fruitful dialogue regarding the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and its mutual priorities. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, noted, “FS wished Amb-designate Gor all success for his assignment.”
Gor was officially nominated as the US Ambassador to India on August 22 and received Senate confirmation on October 7.
This visit occurs during a pivotal time for India-US relations, which are currently facing challenges such as increasing H1B visa costs and uncertainties surrounding tariff measures from the Trump administration.
At just 38 years old, Gor is the youngest US Ambassador to India and is regarded as a close aide to Trump, having previously served as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, responsible for vetting over 4,000 positions in the new Trump administration.
Additionally, Gor will assume the role of a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
