Government Sanctions ₹97.70 Crore Initiative for 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Tripura

Agartala, Dec 4 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance and safeguard the spiritual legacy, the Union Tourism Ministry has sanctioned a ₹97.70 crore initiative to establish a 51-Shakti Peethas Park in the southern Tripura locality of Banduar.
The proposed park holds significant religious importance as it is located merely 4 km from the Mata Tripura Sundari temple, which was founded by the former king 523 years ago.
The Tripura Sundari temple, established in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the erstwhile king of the state, is situated in Udaipur, 65 km south of Agartala. It is recognized as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas across India, and it is the third such shrine in eastern India, following the Kali temple in Kolkata’s Kalighat and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.
A government representative informed IANS that the proposed site for the 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Banduar is a tranquil village in the Gomati district, surrounded by lush greenery and a peaceful atmosphere.
This area provides a serene environment for visitors.
Udaipur, the administrative hub of the Gomati district, is famous for its religious significance, cultural heritage, and historical value, particularly due to the Tripura Sundari temple, which draws pilgrims from across India and internationally.
The temple is located beside a large lake known as Kalyan Sagar.
Udaipur, which served as the headquarters during the royal dynasty for a short period, is often referred to as the “lake city” and features several beautiful lakes, including Bijoy Sagar, Jagannath Dighi, and Amar Sagar.
Additionally, it houses a national library named “Nazrul Granthagar”, honoring the renowned poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Under this initiative, replicas of the 51 Shakti Peethas will be constructed within the park, along with various facilities.
“The 51 Shakti Peethas Park is an ambitious religious tourism project to be developed in Banduar village. This distinctive project aims to offer an immersive experience for visitors by showcasing replicas of the 51 Shakti Peeth temples from throughout the Indian subcontinent, symbolizing the rich cultural and spiritual heritage associated with Shakti (Devi) worship in Hinduism,” the official stated.
He further explained that the park will include a variety of amenities designed to enrich the overall visitor experience, such as a food court with ample seating, a souvenir shop, drinking water facilities, well-constructed roads with parking, public conveniences, guest accommodations, landscaped gardens, museums focused on mythology, and various entertainment options.
According to another official, the Union Tourism Ministry had previously allocated ₹37.80 crore under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme for the comprehensive development of the Mata Tripura Sundari temple.
“The developmental work at the Tripura Sundari temple complex is progressing rapidly, with approximately 80 percent completed. The remaining construction is anticipated to be finalized within the current financial year,” the official informed IANS.
At the conclusion of 517 years of reign by numerous kings, the former princely state of Tripura came under the control of the Indian government on October 15, 1949, following a merger agreement signed by Kanchan Prabha Devi, the then regent Maharani, and the Indian Governor General.
