New Delhi, June 26 (NationPress) The government has released a notification that grants permission to the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) to utilize Aadhaar authentication, voluntarily, for confirming the identities of candidates participating in its examinations.
According to an official statement released on Thursday, "The notification from the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, enables IBPS to implement Aadhaar authentication through Yes/No or/and e-KYC facilities on a voluntary basis for identity verification during its examinations and recruitment processes."
This initiative is designed to enhance good governance and fortify the integrity of the recruitment process within the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector, aiming to curb impersonation and various malpractices during examinations, the statement added.
It will not only facilitate a fair and transparent recruitment process but also safeguard legitimate candidates from being impacted by fraudulent actions. Additionally, it will streamline and hasten the identity verification process, decrease administrative overhead, and bolster public confidence in the entire examination and selection framework, the statement noted.
IBPS is recognized as a designated 'Public Examination Authority', and this notification has been issued under Rule 5 of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, as per the statement.
This notification follows the approval from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) after discussions with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the statement further mentioned.
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC), responsible for recruitment for central government positions, has also opted to implement Aadhaar-based biometric authentication in its upcoming examinations, verifying candidates' identities on a voluntary basis.
The SSC is among the largest recruitment entities within the Central government, primarily tasked with selections for non-gazetted roles across various Central ministries and departments.
This new measure has been active for recruitment tests conducted from May onward.
